Novo Holdings bought a 49% stake in India’s Surya Hospitals for $120–144 million to expand women’s and children’s healthcare.
Novo Holdings, the investment arm of the Novo Nordisk Foundation, has invested in Surya Hospitals, India’s largest private network of women’s and children’s specialty hospitals, acquiring a 49% stake.
The deal, valued at Rs 1,000–1,200 crore, supports expansion in Mumbai, Pune, and Jaipur, enhancing access to high-quality care in obstetrics, neonatal and pediatric intensive care, fertility, and sub-specialties.
The investment aligns with Novo Holdings’ strategy to strengthen healthcare infrastructure in India through long-term, quality-driven partnerships.
Amit Kakar and Navjeewan Khosla from Novo will join Surya’s board, while Hulbert Soh will serve as observer.
The transaction reflects growing momentum in India’s healthcare M&A market, driven by rising demand for specialized care and demographic shifts.
As of 2024, Novo Holdings managed EUR 142 billion in assets.
