A new Indigenous affordable housing complex in Sarnia opens in February, offering 40 units at reduced rents to First Nations, Inuit, and Métis residents.
A 40-unit, five-storey Indigenous affordable housing building on Confederation Street in Sarnia is set to open in February, offering one to three-bedroom apartments to First Nations, Inuit, and Métis residents.
Developed by Ontario Aboriginal Housing Services and built on land donated by Lambton County, the project, completed in 2024, features Indigenous-inspired design and rents at 80% of market rates, from $888 to $1,236 monthly plus utilities, with ten units eligible for additional rent assistance.
The building includes a laundry room, bike storage, and space for the Sarnia-Lambton Native Friendship Centre.
An open house is scheduled for January 19.
The development is part of a broader initiative managing about 2,750 units across Ontario, following a similar project in London.
