MK Party in KZN demands power, citing corruption and mismanagement, after being excluded from unity government despite winning most seats.
The MK Party in KwaZulu-Natal says it is ready to take over provincial governance, citing widespread corruption, poor service delivery, and mismanagement, including a 2025 Auditor-General report showing 90% of local government spending was unlawful.
Despite winning 37 seats in 2024—the most in the province—MK was excluded from the current Government of Provincial Unity, which includes the IFP, ANC, DA, and NFP.
The party now claims support from the EFF and a faction of the NFP, aiming to oust Premier Thami Ntuli ahead of the 2026–2027 local elections.
However, political instability has long plagued the province, with frequent leadership changes and weak institutions, raising concerns that an MK-led government may not bring lasting stability.
