KKK flyers rebranding MLK Day as "James Earl Ray Day" were found in Lexington, sparking condemnation and a police investigation.
On January 19, 2026, Ku Klux Klan flyers promoting a youth chapter and rebranding Martin Luther King Jr. Day as “James Earl Ray Day” were found in Lexington’s Kenwick neighborhood just before the holiday.
Distributed late Sunday night and early Monday morning, the hate-filled materials sparked outrage among residents and officials, who condemned the timing and nature of the act.
Kenwick Neighborhood Association President Blake Hall called the distribution cowardly and emphasized the community’s unified rejection of hate.
Lexington Police are investigating, reviewing surveillance and accepting tips, as this follows similar incidents in Central Kentucky earlier in the year.
No arrests have been made.
