Karnataka High Court to hear plea for clearer rules on accessing offline court recordings.
The Karnataka High Court has issued a notice on a January 19, 2026, petition by advocate Angad Kamath seeking clear, standardized guidelines for accessing archived court recordings not uploaded online.
Kamath challenged a December 2025 denial of his request under the Karnataka Rules on Live Streaming and Recording of Court Proceedings, 2021, arguing that Rule 8(3), which allows the Designated Officer to approve or deny access without specifying grounds or requiring explanations, lacks transparency and violates constitutional principles.
He urged the court to mandate defined timelines, reasoned decisions, and an internal review mechanism.
The court questioned the necessity of the requested information, and the matter is set for further hearing on February 6, 2026.
