As of January 16, 2026, India’s rabi crop sowing reached 652.33 lakh hectares, a 2.8% increase from last year, with wheat, pulses, mustard, and barley acreages rising. Wheat remained stable at 334.17 lakh hectares, while pulses and oilseeds saw gains of 2.8% and 3.8%, respectively. Barley and rabi paddy also expanded significantly. The government has set a foodgrain target of 171.14 million tonnes for 2025-26, with higher minimum support prices (MSP) approved for all rabi crops to boost farmer incomes and control inflation.
