Damien Kurek to run in Battle River—Crowfoot, a Conservative stronghold, after helping Pierre Poilievre win a byelection in Carleton.
Former Conservative MP Damien Kurek will run again in Battle River—Crowfoot, a safe Conservative seat now held by leader Pierre Poilievre after he lost his Carleton riding in 2025.
The party’s national council unanimously approved Kurek’s candidacy without a nomination process.
Kurek previously vacated the seat to help Poilievre win a byelection in Carleton, where Poilievre secured 80.9% of the vote.
Kurek, who served since 2019 and won 82.8% in 2025, expressed support for Poilievre.
Poilievre must still choose a new riding ahead of the next election, with Battle River—Crowfoot seen as a likely option.
Liberal MP Bruce Fanjoy, who defeated Poilievre in Carleton, has invited him to run there again to avoid another byelection.
