Colombia sentences ex-paramilitary leader Mancuso to 40 years for crimes against Indigenous people; he was later named peace facilitator.
A Colombian court has sentenced former paramilitary leader Salvatore Mancuso to 40 years in prison for 117 crimes, including killings and forced displacement, committed against Indigenous communities in La Guajira from 2002 to 2006.
Mancuso, 61, was repatriated from the U.S. in 2024 after serving time for drug trafficking and was later named a “peace facilitator” by President Gustavo Petro to aid negotiations with the Gulf Clan.
The agreement, signed in December, allows Gulf Clan fighters to gather in designated camps and receive temporary immunity from prosecution as talks continue.
