Champaign County honored MLK’s legacy with youth scholarships and a 40-year tradition of unity.

The Champaign County MLK Unity Breakfast honored Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy with a focus on youth leadership and service, awarding ten students $1,000 annual scholarships—split by semester for up to four years—with matched funds for University of Illinois recipients. Two alternates were named. The event, held at Vineyard Church, featured personal essays on perseverance and leadership, community speeches, and a celebration of unity, continuing a 40-year tradition started by Dr. Claude Shelby.
