A 62-year-old man in India is accused of killing his partner in a financial dispute, burning her body in a blue trunk, and fleeing, sparking national outrage.
A 62-year-old retired railway worker in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, is accused of murdering his 32- to 35-year-old live-in partner, Preeti, over a financial dispute, then burning her body in a blue metal trunk using wood and coal.
Police say he used a clay stove at a rented house to burn parts of her body, disposed of the remains in a river, and hired a loader driver to transport the trunk, which raised suspicion.
Authorities recovered ash, bones, and charcoal from the trunk, and forensic analysis is underway.
His son and another man were arrested, while the suspect remains at large.
The case, which draws parallels to a 2019 murder involving a blue drum, has sparked national attention.
