Japan’s RDE system, launched in 2023, now used by 5,000+ researchers to manage 16,000 datasets with AI-ready, standardized data.
Researchers at Japan’s National Institute for Materials Science have developed RDE, a flexible data management system that automates processing of materials science data, standardizes formats, and creates AI-ready datasets using customizable templates.
Since its 2023 launch, RDE has been adopted by over 5,000 users in Japan, managing 16,000 datasets and three million data files across more than 1,900 templates.
It supports national research initiatives and promotes data sharing through open-source tools, enhancing findability, interoperability, reusability, and traceability.
