Witney's volunteer speedwatch group, active since 2024, marks two years of monitoring traffic to enhance safety near schools and retirement areas.
The Witney Town Community Speedwatch team, established in 2024 to improve road safety near schools and retirement communities, marked its second anniversary on January 17, 2026.
Funded by the Police and Crime Commissioner, the volunteer group monitors traffic on Curbridge Road—the site of a 2014 fatal incident—and has recorded over 3,000 vehicles, aiding police in identifying uninsured, untaxed, or cloned vehicles.
Operated by the Witney Traffic Advisory Committee with council support, the program has gained strong community backing and expanded monitoring requests.
Volunteers are trained to report speeding, contributing to safer roads.
Interested residents can join by contacting the town council.
