Supporters of two Ohio amendments— one to protect same-sex marriage and another to ban discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity, race, and other factors—are reporting stronger-than-expected backing, including in rural, traditionally conservative counties like Hocking and Darke.
Despite being split into separate petitions by the Republican-led Ohio Ballot Board, organizers say they are on track to gather the required 413,387 valid signatures from 44 counties by July 1, with community ties and shared struggles like addiction fueling support.
The measures aim to overturn Ohio’s 2004 marriage ban and expand anti-discrimination protections statewide.
