Mosquito-borne disease deaths in Sindh, Pakistan, likely exceed official numbers due to underreporting and delayed care.
Hospital data from four Sindh, Pakistan, facilities in 2025 indicates 103 deaths from mosquito-borne diseases, including 23 from malaria and 80 from dengue, with most cases and deaths in Karachi between August and November.
This contrasts sharply with official provincial data reporting only 33 combined deaths, 20,502 dengue cases, and 283,140 malaria cases with no fatalities.
Experts attribute the discrepancy to underreporting from private clinics and home deaths, gaps in data collection, and delayed diagnosis and treatment, particularly in severe cases involving shock, organ failure, or high parasite loads.
They stress the need for improved surveillance, early detection, prompt care, and mosquito control measures like eliminating stagnant water and using bed nets and repellents.
Es probable que las muertes por enfermedades transmitidas por mosquitos en Sindh, Pakistán, superen las cifras oficiales debido a la falta de informes y la demora en la atención.
