James Stockwell indicted for shooting a cop, carjacking, and fleeing in a stolen patrol car in Chattanooga.
James Alvin Stockwell, 35, of Dunlap, has been indicted on multiple charges including attempted first-degree murder and carjacking in connection with a December 28, 2025, shooting at a Chattanooga gas station.
The incident began when officers responded to a shots-fired call, leading to a confrontation in which Stockwell opened fire, injuring one officer.
He fled in a stolen patrol car, was apprehended after a crash on Highway 111, and hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, acting at the request of the district attorney, conducted the probe.
Stockwell, already held on unrelated charges, was transferred to the Hamilton County Jail on January 17, 2026, and faces a $225,000 bond.
The case remains under investigation.
