Intel’s Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus, a mobile processor in the Arrow Lake-HX refresh, has outperformed its predecessor by up to 15% in multi-core and 8% in single-core benchmarks, according to PassMark tests.
The chip, tested in an MSI laptop with an RTX 5090 GPU and 32GB DDR5-5600 memory, maintains 8 performance and 16 efficiency cores but achieves higher boost clocks up to 5.45 GHz.
It scores 5,009 in single-core and 66,203 in multi-core tests, nearing the performance of Intel’s desktop Core Ultra 9 285K and surpassing AMD’s Ryzen 9 9955HX3D.
The improved thermal efficiency and clock speeds mark a significant leap for laptop CPUs.
Intel is expected to launch the new lineup between March and April 2026, enabling powerful mobile workstations for demanding tasks.
