CBS aired Trump’s unedited 13-minute interview despite White House threats of legal action.
Despite reports that the White House threatened legal action if the 13-minute interview with President Donald Trump was cut, CBS News decided to air the uncut version of the interview from a Michigan factory. The New York Times reports that White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt warned executive producer Kim Harvey and CBS anchor Tony Dokoupil that Trump would file a lawsuit if the interview wasn't shown in its entirety. According to CBS, the decision was made independently. This comes after CBS's parent company, Paramount, settled a lawsuit in 2024 regarding an interview with Kamala Harris for $16 million. Amidst increased regulatory scrutiny of media mergers, the incident underscores persistent tensions between the White House and major media outlets.
