CBS News aired President Donald Trump’s unedited 13-minute interview from a Michigan factory, stating its decision was independent despite reports that the White House threatened legal action if the interview was cut.
According to The New York Times, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told CBS anchor Tony Dokoupil and executive producer Kim Harvey that Trump would sue if the interview wasn’t broadcast in full.
CBS maintained it made the call on its own.
This follows a 2024 lawsuit over a Kamala Harris interview that resulted in a $16 million settlement from CBS’s parent company, Paramount.
The incident highlights ongoing tensions between the White House and major media outlets amid broader regulatory scrutiny of media mergers.
