Trump appoints 4 to Fine Arts Commission to review $90M White House expansion, amid legal challenges.
President Donald Trump has appointed four new members to the Commission of Fine Arts, restoring its quorum to review his proposed 90,000-square-foot White House ballroom, part of the East Wing Modernization project.
The appointments, revealed in court filings, include architect James McCrery, who previously led the project, along with Mary Anne Carter, Roger Kimball, and Matthew Taylor.
The White House says the project, funded by private donations including from Trump, began after the East Wing’s demolition.
The National Trust for Historic Preservation has sued to halt construction, alleging the administration violated federal law by starting work without required approvals from the commissions, Congress, and public input.
The Commission of Fine Arts is set to meet on January 22, with formal presentations scheduled for February 19 and March 19.
The National Capital Planning Commission held an initial briefing on January 8.
The White House has not commented.
