Authorities allege years of systematic abuse, including torture, starvation, and psychological manipulation, with Malinda weighing just 50 pounds at death and suffering around 75 injuries.
Hoagland admitted to conspiracy, kidnapping, and other charges, avoiding the death penalty in exchange for a life sentence plus 30 to 60 years.
His girlfriend, Cindy Warren, who is also charged, is set to stand trial on June 8, 2026.
The case has prompted renewed calls for child abuse reporting.
