Micron buys Taiwan's P5 fab for $1.8B to expand DRAM production by 2027.
Micron Technology has agreed to acquire Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation's P5 fab in Taiwan for $1.8 billion, aiming to boost DRAM production capacity amid rising global demand.
The 300,000-square-foot 300mm facility in Miaoli County will enable Micron to ramp up production starting in late 2027, with the deal expected to close by mid-2026 pending approvals.
The acquisition strengthens Micron’s manufacturing presence in Asia and establishes a long-term partnership with PSMC, which will continue to support its legacy DRAM portfolio through post-wafer processing.
