A 2024 analysis by Michigan Auto Law identified the state’s 10 most crash-prone roundabouts, with 18½ Mile Road at Van Dyke Avenue in Sterling Heights leading at 162 crashes and 12 injuries. Other high-crash sites include Martin Parkway at North Pontiac Trail in Commerce Township and Orchard Lake Road at 14 Mile Road in Farmington Hills. Four of the top five also rank among Michigan’s 20 most dangerous intersections. Despite high crash numbers, roundabouts generally reduce severe accidents due to slower speeds and improved pedestrian safety. The report highlights rising crash rates at some locations, prompting calls for better driver education and safer navigation practices.
