The Mahamagha Mahotsavam, a historic Hindu festival in Kerala likened to India’s Kumbh Mela, is being revived on a large scale from January 18 to February 3, drawing global participants. Rooted in a legend of Lord Brahma’s yajna that formed the Bharata Puzha River, the event was halted over 270 years ago under British rule and only recently expanded after modest annual observances since 2016. Inspired by the 2021 Prayagraj Kumbh Mela, organizers aim to restore its ancient significance as South India’s premier river festival, emphasizing spiritual heritage, cultural pride, and sustainable growth.
