Iceland starts bag-free online grocery trial in West Yorkshire, using crates to cut plastic use.
Iceland has begun a trial in West Yorkshire, starting January 10, 2026, to eliminate plastic and paper bags from online grocery deliveries, replacing them with loose crates to reduce waste.
Customers in the trial area no longer have the option to pay 30p for bags, though raw meat and cleaning products remain in plastic for safety.
The change supports Iceland’s goal to cut plastic use by up to 5% by 2028.
Delivery drivers will receive extra time to assist with unpacking.
The trial’s duration and potential expansion are not yet confirmed.
