A fire in an empty flat in Newmarket, Suffolk, prompted evacuations but caused no injuries.
A fire erupted in a first-floor flat at Churchill Court Flats in Newmarket, Suffolk, around 9:40 p.m. on January 16, 2026, prompting nine fire crews from Suffolk and Cambridgeshire to respond.
The blaze, contained to the flat and reportedly empty at the time, caused flames to shoot from a window and was extinguished by 12:20 a.m. on January 17 using hose reel jets.
Tenants in nearby flats were evacuated as a precaution, but no injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
