Dwight Kematch, 41, was sentenced to life in prison with no parole for 13 years for the January 2024 second-degree murder of Alexander Lo, whom he attacked after meeting him on Grindr. Kematch described the April 2025 Lapu Lapu festival attack, which killed 11 people and led to his brother Adam Kai-Ji Lo’s arrest on 11 murder charges, as a “ripple effect” of his crime. The Crown and defense agreed on the 13-year parole ineligibility period, starting from Kematch’s 2024 arrest. Lo’s mother read a victim impact statement detailing severe emotional trauma, a suicide attempt, and long-term health issues. Kematch, who has a history of violent offenses and disturbing online searches, was also banned for life from possessing firearms or weapons. The case involving Adam Kai-Ji Lo remains pending trial.
