Colombia launches $1.68B anti-drone program to combat deadly attacks by armed groups using drones.
Colombia has launched a $1.68 billion anti-drone initiative to counter a surge in drone attacks by armed groups, including the ELN and FARC dissidents, which caused 15 deaths and 153 injuries between 2024 and 2025.
The program, part of a broader military modernization effort, includes a $271.1 million first phase and aims to detect and neutralize unmanned aerial vehicles used in smuggling and assaults, particularly in remote coca-growing regions.
The government is engaging international partners and has also secured a €3.1 billion deal for 17 Gripen fighter jets.
