Butler County Jail passed inspection with one minor meal policy violation despite overcrowding and past concerns.
A December 22 inspection found Butler County Jail compliant with 174 of 175 Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections standards, despite prior concerns over overcrowding, heating, medical care, and housing ICE detainees with general inmates.
The jail, which earns $105 per detainee daily under a renewed 287(g) contract, had 1,045 inmates—289 over capacity—though a variance allows reduced cell space for mental health reasons.
The sole violation was serving a disciplinary vegetarian meal, known as "the Warden Burger," which breaches ODRC meal policies.
No issues with heating or medical care were found.
