Bangladesh appoints brother of slain activist Omar Bin Hadi to UK diplomatic post ahead of Feb. 12 election.
Bangladesh’s interim government has appointed Omar Bin Hadi, brother of slain Islamist leader Osman Sharif Bin Hadi, as second secretary at the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Birmingham, UK, on a three-year contract.
The appointment, effective upon joining, requires him to resign from all other employment and was announced by the Ministry of Public Administration.
Osman Bin Hadi, a prominent anti-India activist and election candidate, was killed in December 2025 during a motorcycle ambush in Dhaka, sparking violent protests and attacks on minorities and diplomatic missions.
The move, seen as politically sensitive, comes amid ongoing tensions and allegations of government manipulation ahead of the February 12, 2026, general election.
