Avista seeks a 13.9% electric rate hike in 2027, with gradual increases through 2030, citing infrastructure, climate compliance, and coal phase-out costs.
Avista has requested approval from the Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission for a series of rate increases over four years, proposing a 13.9% electric rate hike in 2027 followed by smaller annual increases, raising the average residential electric bill from $124.23 to $157.94 by 2030.
Natural gas rates would also rise gradually, increasing from $91.06 to $100.46 over the same period.
The utility cites rising costs from infrastructure upgrades, wildfire resilience, compliance with climate laws, and the phase-out of coal power as key reasons.
The proposal is subject to a review process that will take about 11 months.
