The California Public Utilities Commission has approved Verizon’s $20 billion acquisition of Frontier Communications, clearing the final regulatory hurdle.
As part of the deal, Verizon will invest in 75,000 new fiber locations, build 25 rural wireless towers, and provide free broadband to low-income households for a decade.
The merger, set to close January 20, 2026, will expand Verizon’s fiber network to nearly 30 million U.S. households and strengthen its national broadband and 5G offerings.
Frontier’s stock will be delisted on January 16, 2026, with new service bundles expected to boost customer value.
