U.S. allies urge Trump to delay strikes on Iran amid protests that have killed at least 2,637, as tensions rise and sanctions expand.
Several Middle Eastern U.S. allies, including Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Oman, and Qatar, have urged President Trump to delay potential military strikes against Iran amid its violent crackdown on protesters, warning that U.S. intervention could destabilize the region and disrupt the global economy.
Oil prices dropped as Trump’s tone shifted, with the White House citing reports that Iran halted 800 executions and suspended a death sentence for an Iranian shopkeeper, though Iranian state media denied the claims.
Despite these signals, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt stated “all options remain on the table,” and U.S. envoy Mike Waltz confirmed military action is still possible.
The protests, which began as a challenge to Iran’s theocracy, have reportedly led to at least 2,637 deaths, with authorities suppressing dissent through internet blackouts and violence.
The U.S. also imposed new sanctions targeting Iran’s Supreme Council for National Security and a shadow banking network linked to illicit oil sales.
