Two Laois brothers sentenced to 9.5 years for years of sexual abuse on niece, starting at age 8.
Two Laois brothers, James Joseph Jordan, 59, and Patrick Fintan Jordan, 55, have been sentenced to nine and a half years in prison for the prolonged sexual abuse of their niece, Sabrina Fox, which began when she was eight or nine and continued until she was 13.
The abuse, occurring between 1986 and 1991 at their family home in Borris-in-Ossory, involved repeated rapes and indecent assaults by both men, who were 21–25 and 16–21 at the time.
The victim, who waived anonymity, described lasting emotional, psychological, and physical trauma, including guilt and shame instilled by the offenders.
Judge David Keane called the abuse a serious, prolonged violation of trust, noting the victim’s vulnerability.
Sentences included a suspended final year and three-year post-release supervision.
The court considered mitigating factors, including guilty pleas, mental health issues, and high suicide risk, with the judge instructing defense counsel to inform prison authorities.
