A shooting at an Atlanta warming center injured two men; suspect arrested after off-duty officer stopped him.
A shooting at the Central Park Recreation Center in Atlanta, used as a warming center, left two men injured and the suspect, 37-year-old Antonio Wooten, taken into custody.
The incident occurred Thursday morning around 10 a.m. when Wooten opened fire during an altercation, injuring two adult males, one of whom was a bystander.
An off-duty Atlanta police officer fired his weapon to stop the threat, resulting in Wooten sustaining a broken arm but not being shot.
Both victims and the suspect were transported to Grady Memorial Hospital and are expected to survive.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating the officer’s actions and how a firearm entered the facility despite security measures.
The warming center was temporarily closed and patrons relocated.
