Nepal saw FDI commitments rise to $270 million in early 2025-26, but actual inflows remain low due to political uncertainty ahead of the 2026 election.
Foreign direct investment (FDI) commitments in Nepal reached 39.23 billion rupees ($270 million) in the first half of fiscal year 2025-26, up from 25.77 billion rupees the previous year, according to the Department of Industry.
The increase reflects growing international interest, with 475 new projects pledged across sectors, aiming to create 20,122 jobs.
Agriculture received the largest investment at 21.88 billion rupees, while ICT led in project volume with 257 initiatives.
Despite this rise in commitments, actual FDI inflows remain low, totaling just 7.47 billion rupees in the first five months, due to political instability and investor uncertainty ahead of the March 2026 general election.
