A multi-vehicle crash in Laredo injured seven; a man was arrested in a 2024 fatal hit-and-run.

A five-vehicle crash closed southbound Highway 83 in Laredo, Texas, on January 15, 2026, injuring seven people, one of whom was hospitalized in stable condition; lanes reopened by 8:30 p.m. A 24-year-old Killeen man, Jesse G. Hernandez Jr., was arrested in Laredo in connection with a fatal December 20, 2024, hit-and-run on I-35 near Salado that killed tow truck driver David Conrad Holz, 57. Hernandez is jailed in Webb County awaiting extradition. On January 14, a 71-year-old Nuevo Laredo man, Ricardo Garza Iruegas, died in a head-on crash on State Highway 59 east of Laredo when a westbound truck crossed into oncoming traffic. All incidents are under investigation.
