A Maine bus driver was charged with manslaughter after allegedly hitting and killing a 12-year-old boy at a crosswalk in November 2025.

A Rockland, Maine, school bus driver, Jeffrey Colburn, 65, was arrested and charged with manslaughter in the Nov. 21, 2025, death of 12-year-old Brayden Callahan, who was struck while crossing at a marked crosswalk. Police say Colburn accelerated after dropping off a student, failing to deploy the crossing arm and leaning away from the roadway, with video showing he did not see the boy. Colburn, who had a prior DUI conviction and was no longer employed by the school district, was released on $50,000 bail. The incident is one of two school bus-related fatalities in Maine that fall.
