India rebuked Pakistan at the UN for raising Kashmir, calling it a baseless, divisive move.

At the UN General Assembly, India denounced Pakistan for bringing up the Jammu and Kashmir issue, calling it an abuse of the platform to advance a divisive agenda. Self-determination is a fundamental UN principle, but it shouldn't be used to encourage secession in democratic countries, according to Indian envoy Eldos Mathew Punnoose. He reiterated that Jammu and Kashmir is an essential component of India, rejecting Pakistan's assertions as unfounded and unsupported by the majority of member states. Punnoose called for more robust action on issues impacting the Global South and criticized the UN's efficacy in addressing global peace, security, and development.
