French swimmer Yannick Agnel, 33, to stand trial for alleged 2016 rape of a 13-year-old, under new French law.
French Olympic swimmer Yannick Agnel, 33, will stand trial on rape and sexual assault charges linked to alleged incidents involving a 13-year-old girl in 2016, when he was 24.
The Colmar appeals court ordered the trial after Agnel admitted to a relationship with the underage girl but denied coercion.
The case stems from France’s 2021 law reclassifying sex with minors under 15 as rape, punishable by up to 20 years in prison.
Agnel has 10 days to appeal to the Court of Cassation.
The trial date has not been set.
