Delaware closes Indian River Bay to clamming and musseling after 25,000-gallon sewage spill.
The Delaware DNREC has closed Indian River Bay to clam and mussel harvesting due to a sewage leak from Millsboro’s wastewater facility, which released over 25,000 gallons of sewage on January 15, 2026.
The closure, effective immediately, will last at least 21 days after the discharge ends to protect public health.
Crab, conch, and finfish harvesting remain allowed, and Rehoboth Bay is not affected.
Officials urge avoiding contact with bay waters near the discharge site while repairs continue.
