The Boston Bruins retired Zdeno Chara’s No.
33 jersey on January 15, 2026, during a pre-game ceremony at TD Garden before their game against the Seattle Kraken.
Chara, who played 14 seasons with the Bruins and served as captain, led the team to a Stanley Cup win in 2011 and was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2023.
The honor makes him the 13th player in franchise history to have his number retired and the first European-born player to receive the distinction.
He played 1,023 games for Boston, earning a Norris Trophy and multiple leadership awards.
The ceremony included appearances by former Bruins players, and Chara, now a hockey operations advisor, returned to Boston for the event.
