A 43-year-old Irish woman admitted to faking two pregnancies to steal €59,000 in benefits.
Eimear Carroll, a 43-year-old former primary school teacher from Offaly, admitted to faking two pregnancies and births to fraudulently claim over €59,000 in maternity benefits and cover costs between 2018 and 2019.
She forged medical documents, fabricated a marriage to a non-existent man, and claimed to have given birth to two children who do not exist.
Authorities found no evidence of the children or husband during a home search, and her actions were deemed premeditated.
Carroll, who previously served a suspended sentence for harassment, has repaid €10,500 and is making weekly payments.
Sentencing was adjourned to June 3, 2026, pending psychological and probation reports.
