A Tampa Bay trail section remains closed since Jan. 7, 2026, due to hurricane damage, with no reopening date set.
A section of the Upper Tampa Bay Trail near West Waters Avenue has been closed since January 7, 2026, due to storm damage from hurricanes Helene and Milton, requiring culvert replacement; no reopening date has been set, with repairs expected to take several weeks. The 11.45-mile trail, used by about 300,000 people yearly for recreation, remains accessible via trailheads at 9201 W. Waters Ave. and 10338 Wilsky Blvd., though a two-mile gap between Peterson and Van Dyke roads persists. The trail follows a 1909 railroad route and connects to nature preserves. Hillsborough County has recently upgraded infrastructure, including a new $2.2 million bridge opened in June 2025.
