Philadelphia starts $150M AveArts 2.0 project to revitalize South Broad Street with green spaces, art, and improved safety.
Philadelphia has begun a $150 million, decade-long transformation of its Avenue of the Arts, a mile-long stretch of South Broad Street, with construction starting January 30.
The project, dubbed "AveArts 2.0," will upgrade the corridor with green spaces, expanded sidewalks, public art, performance areas, and improved lighting and safety features, block by block.
The first phase, between Pine and Spruce streets, is set for completion by June 2026.
Funded by public sources, donations, and foundation support, the initiative aims to boost tourism, economic return, and urban livability, following the closure of the University of the Arts and Temple University’s planned expansion into the area.
