Nigeria's NJC recommended Justice Joseph Oyewole for Supreme Court, along with 35 others, in January 2026.
The National Judicial Council recommended Justice Joseph Oyewole for appointment to Nigeria’s Supreme Court, along with 35 other judicial appointments, following a screening process that included interviews and review of public complaints.
The decision, made during the council’s 110th meeting on January 13, 2026, also extended Imo State’s Acting Chief Judge’s tenure by three months and urged the state governor to establish a State Judicial Service Commission.
The council cleared Osun State’s Chief Judge of financial misconduct allegations, dismissed a petition against a Delta State judge after its withdrawal, and overturned a suspension of a Court of Appeal justice due to procedural delays.
The NJC also cautioned against issuing ex parte orders without cause and advised careful case assignment to new judges.
