New Zealand funds $459K tourism push to attract Australians to South Island in 2026.
New Zealand’s government has awarded $459,250 to the Southern Way tourism campaign to boost Australian visitor interest in the lower South Island during autumn and early winter 2026.
The funding, part of a $10 million Regional Tourism Boost Fund, supports promotional efforts highlighting regional attractions like Central Otago wines, Oamaru’s cheese, and West Coast wilderness walks.
Coordinated by local tourism groups, the campaign offers time-limited deals, themed itineraries, and bookable travel packages to increase off-peak travel.
It is one of five projects receiving $3.69 million in Round 2, aiming to strengthen local economies, create jobs, and distribute tourism benefits more widely across the South Island.
