Kentucky Blood Center now lets certain cancer survivors donate blood one year after treatment.
The Kentucky Blood Center now allows cancer survivors who completed treatment for certain cancers—such as organ cancers and melanoma—to donate blood one year post-treatment, expanding eligibility based on evidence that cancer isn’t transmitted through transfusions.
The change, effective immediately, aims to boost the donor pool amid ongoing shortages, though those with blood, bone marrow, or lymphatic cancers remain ineligible.
All other health and safety requirements still apply.
