Japanese firms NTT DATA, Sumitomo Corp., and JA Mitsui Leasing have formed Intra-Asia Marine Networks to build an 8,100-km underwater fiber-optic cable linking Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines, and Taiwan.
The project, costing about $1 billion, will feature 16 fiber pairs with 320 terabits per second capacity and is set for completion by 2029.
It aims to boost regional data infrastructure, support AI and cloud demand, enhance resilience, and strengthen digital connectivity across Asia.
