The God’s Love shelter in Helena will resume emergency operations during dangerously cold weather, reverting to its traditional Oct. 1 to April 1 schedule.
This follows a 2025 change requiring proof of addiction recovery and mental health treatment for access during October–December due to safety concerns, which led six individuals to seek treatment and return.
Though winter temperatures have remained mild in 2026, the shelter will reopen if extreme cold returns.
Co-director David Miller emphasized the need for more housing and support services for homeless individuals, regardless of background, noting the shelter also serves families, employed people, and disabled veterans.
