A Glasgow nurse honored for 33 years of care to a mother and son treated for rare tumors.
A Glasgow nurse, Angela Howat, has been honored by a mother and son for caring for both over 33 years, treating the mother, Stephanie Muirhead, for a spinal tumor in 1990 and her son Andrew for a medulloblastoma brain tumor in 2023.
Andrew’s diagnosis followed persistent symptoms leading to an MRI, resulting in urgent surgery, chemotherapy, proton therapy, and rehabilitation.
He is now cancer-free, returned to school, and received a dog and a Dream Flight trip to Florida.
The Royal Hospital for Children, where he was treated, is a Tessa Jowell Centre for Excellence in pediatric brain tumor care, recognized for its multidisciplinary approach.
Both families remain under follow-up care.
