A former SDSU equestrian coach was indicted on theft charges for using university funds for personal horse expenses.
A former South Dakota State University equestrian coach, Kamerra Brown, 38, was indicted on January 8, 2026, on a Class 4 felony charge of grand theft for allegedly using university resources to pay for her personal horses’ veterinary bills and boarding over about a year.
The alleged misuse of funds, valued between $5,000 and $100,000, is under investigation by the South Dakota Attorney General’s Public Integrity Unit.
If convicted, Brown faces up to 10 years in prison.
She is scheduled for her first court appearance on February 23, 2026.
The university has not commented, and no further details have been released.
